The Full Moon and the Dancer

This photo, taken near Cagliari, Sardinia, shows January's full moon rising as the sun set. The familiar patterns of light and dark on the moon's surface are rugged highlands and smooth lunar maria. These features are often interpreted as pareidolia, like the Man in the Moon. The moon's warm hues are visible near the eastern horizon.
