The Whirlpool Galaxy, M51, is a stunning pair of interacting galaxies. The large galaxy, NGC 5194, has well-defined spiral arms and dust lanes that sweep in front of its companion, NGC 5195. This galaxy pair is the 51st entry in Charles Messier's catalog.
