Mysterious spokes appear in Saturn's rings, seen here as light, ghostlike impressions. First discovered in the 1970s and photographed by the Voyager spacecraft, their existence was unexpected. Oddly, these spokes are more common when Saturn's rings are nearly edge-on to the Sun. They were notably absent from early images from the Cassini spacecraft.
