During Saturn's equinox, its ring plane points directly at the Sun. From Earth, the rings appear to vanish. However, the Cassini spacecraft, orbiting Saturn, can view the unusually illuminated rings from above. This image, taken just hours after equinox, shows Saturn's rings appearing darker than ever before.
