Blue Sun Bristling

NASA APOD · Alan Friedman (Averted Imagination)
COSMIC MESSAGE

This inverted-color image of the Sun, taken in hydrogen-alpha light, reveals details of its chromosphere. Numerous thin tubes of magnetically confined hot gas, called spicules, rise from the Sun's surface. These spicules give the Sun a bristling appearance in this specific wavelength.
