The Pleiades, or Seven Sisters, is a bright open cluster of over 3,000 stars, about 400 light years away. It is surrounded by a blue reflection nebula made of fine dust. To the lower left, glowing in red, is the California Nebula, a large emission nebula named for its resemblance to the state.
