The Antennae Galaxies in Collision
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Two galaxies, NGC 4038 and NGC 4039, are colliding in the constellation Corvus. Stars usually don't hit each other in such collisions, but the galaxies rip each other apart gravitationally. Dust and gas do collide, forming dark pillars and massive molecular clouds as new stars ignite.
