COSMIC MESSAGE

The Flame Nebula, also known as NGC 2024, glows with the reddish light of hydrogen atoms. These atoms are ionized by a nearby hot, massive star, then recombine with electrons to emit light. The nebula is part of the giant Orion molecular cloud complex, about 1,500 light-years away.
