A Green Flash from the Sun

NASA APOD · Juan Jos Manzano (Grupo de Observadores Astronmicos de Tenerife)
COSMIC MESSAGE

A green flash from the Sun is not a myth. Just as the setting Sun disappears from view, a last glimmer appears green. This effect is typically visible for only a few seconds from locations with a low, distant horizon. It happens because the atmosphere acts like a prism, bending different colors of light by different amounts, making the green light visible for a moment after the other colors have set.
