NASA APOD · Adam Block
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 1999 is a bright blue reflection nebula located south of the Orion Nebula, about 1,500 light-years away. It is illuminated by the embedded variable star V380 Orionis. A dark, sideways T-shape near the center was once thought to be an obscuring dust cloud, but it is now known to be a void, a hole in the nebula.
