Since 2009, the Kepler spacecraft has found 1,235 candidate planets orbiting other suns. Kepler finds them by monitoring a star field for slight dimming of starlight, caused by a planet transiting, or crossing, the face of its parent star. This illustration shows all of Kepler's planet candidates in transit, with their parent stars ordered by size.
