COSMIC MESSAGE
A dark tower of cosmic dust and molecular gas stands in silhouette against a crowded star field in Scorpius. This structure, a cometary globule, spans almost 40 light-years. Intense ultraviolet radiation from nearby hot stars shapes the cloud. Inside, clumps of gas are collapsing, likely forming new stars.
