That large dark spot on Jupiter is the shadow of Ganymede, Jupiter's largest moon. When Ganymede passes between Jupiter and the Sun, it casts a shadow on the planet's cloud tops. Unlike on Earth, moon shadows happen almost daily on Jupiter, and this one was captured by a spacecraft close enough to record it.
