COSMIC MESSAGE
Twenty-five years ago, Supernova 1987A was the brightest supernova seen in modern times. Astronomers have watched its expanding debris crash into material expelled before the explosion. This time-lapse video from the Hubble Space Telescope shows the blast wave colliding with a pre-existing, light-year-wide ring. This collision causes the ring to glow as it is energized by the shockwave.
