NASA APOD · Tony Hallas
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Iris Nebula, cataloged as NGC 7023, is a cloud of interstellar dust and gas located 1,300 light-years away in the constellation Cepheus. This remarkable image reveals the nebula's range of colors and symmetries. Within the Iris, dusty nebular material surrounds a hot, young star. The dominant blue hues are caused by starlight scattering off the dust particles.
