COSMIC MESSAGE
This image captures a gigantic jet, a rare form of lightning that extends from thunderstorms into Earth's ionosphere. Documented only this century, these powerful discharges are much different from regular cloud-to-cloud lightning. This particular jet was photographed from Puerto Rico, reaching an altitude of about 70 kilometers in less than a second.
