Mammatus Clouds Over Saskatchewan

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Normal cloud bottoms are flat, but mammatus clouds are different. Under certain conditions, cloud pockets develop that contain large droplets of water or ice, falling into clear air as they evaporate. These pockets often occur in turbulent air near a thunderstorm, creating their distinctive appearance, as seen here over Saskatchewan.
