Night of the Long Leonid

NASA APOD · Stéphane Vetter
COSMIC MESSAGE

A grain of sand from Comet Tempel-Tuttle left this long, colorful trail as it grazed Earth's atmosphere. This earthgrazer meteor is part of the Leonid meteor shower, which occurs each November. The scene was captured from Champ du Feu in Alsace, France, with the Milky Way stretching across the sky.
