PanSTARRS Anti-Tail Grows
NASA APOD · Joseph Brimacombe
COSMIC MESSAGE
As Earth approached Comet PanSTARRS's orbital plane, observers saw its anti-tail. This long, narrow anti-tail stretches almost 4 degrees across the sky, about eight times the Moon's angular size. The anti-tail consists of dust trailing along the comet's orbit as it leaves the inner solar system. Our nearly edge-on view from near the comet's orbital plane enhances this effect.
