A Spectre in the Eastern Veil
NASA APOD · Observatorio Zonalunar
COSMIC MESSAGE
The eastern Veil Nebula, a large supernova remnant, holds frightening forms and scary faces. This cosmic close-up spans only half a degree, about the apparent size of the Moon. This translates to 12 light-years at its estimated distance. The Veil Nebula is the expanding debris cloud from a massive star's death explosion, roughly circular in shape and covering nearly 3 degrees in the constellation Cygnus.
