This image shows an aurora borealis, digitally mirrored to create a symmetrical pattern. Auroras are caused by charged particles from the Sun interacting with Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere. These interactions excite atmospheric gases, causing them to emit light. This particular aurora was captured in Jamtland, Sweden, during a geomagnetic storm.
