Auroras over Northern Canada

NASA APOD · Kwon, O Chul
COSMIC MESSAGE

Streaks of color across the sky, an aurora captured over Yellowknife, Canada. These are caused by charged particles from the Sun hitting Earth's atmosphere. The solar wind, a stream of these particles, interacts with our planet's magnetic field. This interaction excites atmospheric gases, causing them to emit light.
