The Moon Eclipses Saturn

NASA APOD · Carlos Di Nallo
COSMIC MESSAGE

Saturn, with its iconic rings, is partially hidden behind Earth's Moon in this image from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This event, called an occultation, happens when one celestial body passes in front of another from our perspective. The Moon itself is only partly illuminated by the Sun, casting a dark edge across Saturn. Such alignments offer a unique view of our solar system's geometry.
