The Homunculus Nebula is a bipolar cloud of dust, about one light-year across, surrounding the unstable binary star system Eta Carinae. Between 1838 and 1845, Eta Carinae underwent a 'Great Eruption,' expelling the material that formed this nebula. It sits about 7,500 light-years away in the Carina Nebula.
