COSMIC MESSAGE

The Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31, is the closest large spiral galaxy to our Milky Way. It is about 2.5 million light-years away and contains hundreds of billions of stars. This image shows the diffuse light of Andromeda's disk, with individual stars in the foreground belonging to our own galaxy. Andromeda and the Milky Way are on a collision course, destined to merge in a few billion years.
