This telescopic view from the Santa Cruz Mountains shows the totally eclipsed Moon on October 8, 2014. A lunar eclipse happens when the Moon is opposite the Sun and passes through Earth's shadow. During this event, the planet Uranus was also near opposition, visible as a faint dot near the Moon's limb.
