The Rosette Nebula in Monoceros is a stellar nursery about 5,000 light years away. Its beautiful, symmetric shape is sculpted by the winds and radiation from its central cluster of hot, young stars. The stars in the cluster, NGC 2244, are only a few million years old. This image highlights the hydrogen and oxygen gas within the nebula.
