This is planet Earth, seen from the International Space Station through the shimmering glow of aurorae. The orbiting station, about 400 kilometers up, is within the upper realm of these auroral displays. Aurorae show the signature colors of excited molecules and atoms at extreme altitudes. The eerie greenish glow in this view is dominated by molecular oxygen.
