COSMIC MESSAGE
Charon, Pluto's largest moon, is 1,200 kilometers across, about half the diameter of Pluto itself. This image from the New Horizons spacecraft shows Charon in unprecedented detail. It was captured on July 13 from a range of less than 500,000 kilometers, closer than Earth is to its own Moon. The terrain shows a dark polar region and a large canyon system, suggesting past geological activity.
