M45: The Pleiades Star Cluster

NASA APOD · Marco Lorenzi (Glittering Lights)
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Pleiades star cluster, also known as M45, is one of the most famous star clusters in the sky. Its bright stars are visible without binoculars, even from light-polluted cities. This long exposure, taken from a dark location, reveals the dust cloud surrounding the cluster. The exposure took over 12 hours and covers a sky area several times the size of the full moon.
