Eta Carinae is a massive star, roughly 100 times the mass of our Sun, and a candidate for a future supernova. About 150 years ago, it underwent an unusual outburst, making it one of the brightest stars in the southern sky. It resides within the Keyhole Nebula and is the only known star to emit natural laser light.
