COSMIC MESSAGE
Comet 252/P LINEAR recently underwent a 100-fold outburst, making it unexpectedly bright. This image captures the comet, at about magnitude 6, passing in front of the distant globular star cluster M14. Comet LINEAR is one of a rare group of comets that orbit between Earth and Jupiter every five years. It passed within 14 lunar distances of Earth last month.
