North Star: Polaris and Surrounding Dust
NASA APOD · Javier Zayaz
COSMIC MESSAGE
Polaris, the North Star, is located almost directly above Earth's rotational axis. This position means that as Earth spins, Polaris appears to remain stationary in the northern sky, while other stars seem to revolve around it. Thousands of years ago, Earth's axis pointed towards a different star, Vega.
