The star KIC 8462852, observed by NASA's Kepler satellite, shows unexplained dimmings in its brightness. Its light can drop by as much as 20 percent for months, then recover, a pattern not easily explained by orbiting planets or dust. Citizen scientists working with Kepler data first spotted this unusual behavior.
