Today marks the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, when the Sun reaches its northernmost point in Earth's sky. This image, taken during the 2008 summer solstice, captures the sunrise over Stonehenge. The ancient stones, placed about 4,500 years ago, align with the sunrise on this significant astronomical date.
