Curiosity rover investigated the dark Namib Dune in Gale Crater on Mars to study how wind affects Martian sand. Namib is the first active sand dune examined up close outside of Earth. The larger peaks on Namib dune, averaging about 3 meters apart, are a type of ripple not seen on Earth.
