Looking through the cosmic cloud of NGC 281 reveals the stars of open cluster IC 1590. The cluster's young, massive stars power the pervasive nebular glow. The eye-catching shapes are sculpted columns and dense dust globules, eroded by intense winds and radiation from the hot cluster stars. These dusty structures could also be sites of future star formation.
