Starburst Cluster in NGC 3603

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 3603, located about 20,000 light-years from the Sun in the Carina spiral arm, is one of the Milky Way's largest star-forming regions. Its central open star cluster contains thousands of stars, many more massive than our Sun. These stars likely formed in a single burst of star formation only one or two million years ago. NGC 3603 offers a convenient example of the massive star clusters found in other galaxies.
