The Galaxy Between Two Friends
NASA APOD · Martin Lefranc
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Andromeda galaxy, a faint cloud with a brighter core, is visible above two friends in the French Alps. This vertical panorama captures the Milky Way on the left, with stars from Cassiopeia and Perseus. The Andromeda galaxy is our closest large galactic neighbor, about 2.5 million light-years away. It's a beautiful sight, even to the naked eye, on a clear, dark night.
