On August 14, 2017, three gravitational wave detectors reported a joint detection of ripples in spacetime, marking the fourth announced detection of a binary black hole merger. The event, named GW170814, was recorded by the LIGO observatories in Washington and Louisiana, and the Virgo Observatory in Italy. The signal was emitted in the final moments of two black holes coalescing.
