M1: The Crab Nebula from Hubble

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This is what's left after a star explodes: the Crab Nebula. Chinese astronomers saw the supernova in 1054 AD. The nebula is filled with complex filaments, which appear to have less mass than the original supernova expelled. The filaments are also moving faster than expected for a free explosion. This image, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, is presented in three colors chosen for scientific interest.
