IC 342: The Hidden Galaxy

NASA APOD · Arturas Medvedevas
COSMIC MESSAGE

IC 342, a large spiral galaxy, is mostly hidden from view by the dust and gas in our own Milky Way galaxy. Located about 10 million light-years away in the constellation Camelopardalis, it would be a prominent object if not for this cosmic veil. Despite the dimming and reddening of its light, this image reveals its distinct spiral arms and star-forming regions. It is often referred to as the Hidden Galaxy.
