A Retreating Thunderstorm at Sunset

NASA APOD · Alan Dyer (The Amazing Sky)
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image captures a retreating cumulonimbus cloud, also known as a thundercloud, at sunset. It shows the unusual bumpiness of a mammatus cloud on one end and falling rain on the other. Taken in southern Alberta, Canada, in mid-2013, the cloud moves east as the sun sets in the west. The graphic sunset colors highlight the cloud's dramatic form.
