Eta Carinae, a massive star about 100 times the size of our Sun, sits in the Keyhole Nebula. It may explode in a supernova, though no one knows when. About 170 years ago, it had an unusual outburst that made it one of the brightest stars in the southern sky. It is the only star known to emit natural LASER light.
