COSMIC MESSAGE
On February 2nd, early risers saw Saturn near an old Moon low on the eastern horizon. This predawn skyscape from Bursa, Turkey, captured the bright planet, the sunlit crescent, and the faint lunar night side. The Moon's ashen glow is earthshine, Earth's reflected light illuminating the Moon's dark surface. Leonardo da Vinci described earthshine over 500 years ago.
