Ash and Lightning above an Icelandic Volcano
NASA APOD · Sigurur Stefnisson
COSMIC MESSAGE
Why did a picturesque volcanic eruption in Iceland create so much ash? The Eyjafjallajökull volcano began erupting on March 20, 2010. A second eruption started under the center of a small glacier on April 14, 2010. This second eruption melted a large amount of glacier ice, generating a fine ash that drifted across populated areas.
