Northern lights usually do not reach this far south, but magnetic chaos on the Sun's AR 3664 changed that. A surface explosion sent a burst of charged particles into the solar system. A few days later, this coronal mass ejection impacted Earth, triggering auroras unusually far from the poles. This image shows the red aurora over Poland.
