Spiral galaxy M83, also called The Southern Pinwheel, is twelve million light-years away in Hydra. Its prominent spiral arms are traced by dark dust lanes and blue star clusters. Reddish star-forming regions dot the arms, giving it another nickname: The Thousand-Ruby Galaxy. M83 is about 40,000 light-years across.
