This image of NGC 3582 shows a star-forming region in the Statue of Liberty nebula, without the bright stars. It highlights dense knots of dark interstellar dust and glowing hydrogen gas. The hydrogen is ionized by nearby stars, and there are also loops of gas expelled by dying stars. This complex nebula is part of the larger RCW 57 region.
