The Engraved Hourglass Planetary Nebula, MyCn 18, is a spectacular closing phase of a sun-like star's life. Its outer layers are ejected, forming this hourglass shape, and its core becomes a cooling white dwarf. Astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to capture this image in 1995.
